Brenda Casey

Bereavement Midwife

Brenda is a registered Nurse and Midwife. She trained as a nurse in St Vincent’s University Hospital Dublin and completed her Higher Diploma in Midwifery training in the National Maternity Hospital/ UCD.

She was awarded a BSc in Management in Trinity College Dublin and has completed an MSc in Bereavement Studies in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2017.

She completed a Cert in Counselling & Psychotherapy Skills in 2019 and has a keen interest in studying further in this field. With over 25 years experience she has cared for patients and couples at all stages of the life cycle from birth to death.

Her current post since 2015 is Clinical Midwife Specialist in Bereavement & Loss in the National Maternity Hospital Dublin. Her role includes the provision of practical and emotional support to bereaved parents around the time of death and beyond, working as part of a multidisciplinary team in a large Dublin Tertiary Referral Hospital.

Perinatal bereavement education is a key aspect of her role and is actively involved in student education. She was involved in developing an education programme for student midwives which has been incorporated into the midwifery curriculum in UCD.
