Dr Sheila Boland

Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Sheila Boland is a clinical psychologist in private practice and in the HSE. She is also a qualified teacher of kundalini yoga and has a master’s degree in occupational psychology. She lives in Cork with her husband and 2 children. She has been working as a clinical psychologist for over 10 years.

In her early career, Sheila worked for Enable Ireland, a service for children with primarily physical needs. Many of these children had life limiting conditions. In 2012 she moved to Cork with her family and took a clinical psychology post in the HSE community adult mental health service. She has enjoyed a varied role of assessment, consultation, individual and group therapy, and supervision of psychology trainees. Her interest in trauma and body-oriented therapies led her to train in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Comprehensive Resource Model (CRM) therapies.

In 2014, Sheila and her family journeyed through the illness and death of their beautiful son, Oisin. He was diagnosed with an aggressive, terminal brain stem tumor. Sheila has spoken about her son’s death in various interviews including Liz Gleeson’s Shapes of Grief podcast. She also writes a moving and honest blog of the journey through her son’s diagnosis, death and grief.

Sheila’s mission is to use her son’s death and her experiences as a psychologist, to inspire others to open fully into what life brings us; to meet these experiences with deep compassion and to use them for our authentic growth.
