Fiona Tuomey

Speaker and Suicide Bereaved advocate

Two years after the death of her 11-year-old daughter Milly by suicide, Fiona established the national suicide bereavement charity HUGG. The charity trains volunteers with a lived experience of suicide, who in turn run peer support groups to others bereaved by suicide.

Fiona has successfully advocated for the suicide bereaved, which has resulted in the active participation of the suicide bereaved in the revision of the national suicide bereavement handbook and education programmes for those working with adults bereaved by suicide

Fiona has been an invited speaker at a number of mental health conferences, radio and television interviews and published articles in national newspapers and magazines, to destigmatise suicide bereavement.

She returned to education, earning a 1st class honours for her dissertation on peer support for the suicide bereaved, as part of her MSc in Loss & Bereavement.
