Dr Katrin Gerber

Research Psychologist

Dr Katrin Gerber is a research psychologist from the National Ageing Research Institute in Melbourne, Australia.

She has over 15 years of international experience in teaching and research related to end-of-life care and mental health. She is an Honorary Fellow at the School of Psychological Sciences of the University of Melbourne. In recognition of her national standing, she was nominated for a National Palliative Care Award as an Emerging Researcher in 2019.

Dr Gerber’s work addresses a broad range of end-of-life topics such as grief in older people, early recognition of dying, preferences for place of care and place of death, end-of-life care needs of first-generation migrants, cancer during pregnancy, early pregnancy loss, nurses’ legal fears when providing symptom relief to dying patients, and capturing the role of uncertainty in end-of-life decision-making.

Her passion for these fields stems from her personal experience as a hospice volunteer and end-of-life family caregiver.
